Micro molding capabilities are the essence of what we do at Accumold. We started our company on this exacting manufacturing process and it remains at the heart of our operation today.

Parts made with our Micro Mold® process range in size from just microns to a half-inch (13 mm). These components often have complex geometry and very tight tolerances—with no margin for error.

Small Part Molding

Small Part Molding
Small parts are slightly larger than those within micro mold classifications: from a half-inch to about 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) in diameter and made from a one-ounce shot of material. Even so, they require the same degree of precision and quality during production. Many have micron tolerances, and they can have micro-sized features measured in microns.

Accumold can mold plastic on and around various types of metals, plastics, fabrics, foils, and complex components without damaging or warping the structure in any way. Some of these processes produce complete parts, while others are ready for further processing by our customers or their contract manufacturers. In many cases, high-speed handling can be added to these processes to save resources.

2-Shot Micro Molding

In micro-molding, two different plastic materials are shot in sync during a single operation. Our customers use this type of micro molding process to lessen the amount of labor required, create a more robust part configuration, or increase cost savings. This process also is capable of handling other applications, such as cosmetics or touch-and-feel applications.

Insert micro-molding encapsulates a wide variety of materials such as metal, glass, fabrics, flex-circuits and other delicate media. These parts, similar to those created with 2-shot molding, not only reduce handling and assembly they can solve critical issues in manufacturing.

Accumold combines small and micro-sized parts with the ability to mold microstructures on the surface of the part. These features can measure under one micro in size and are used in a wide variety of applications like diffractive optics, micro-fluidics, or microlenses.

The Accumold Story

Dedicated to micro since 1985
Like many great start-ups, Accumold began operations in a rented garage. Our founders discovered there was a growing need to manufacture small and microinjection molded components that went well-beyond the available molding systems of the day. This discovery led to the invention of our first Micro-Mold® platform in 1985.

Since those early days, our focus has remained steadfast to the art and science of micro injection molding. In fact, Accumold is the only company that has been continuously dedicated to micro molding for over 30 years. We remain committed to serving high-tech industries that require high-volume, small, complex micro injection molded parts with high quality and fast turn-around.

Expertise to produce your most exacting parts
Some large-injection molding companies purchase smaller molding machinery and then claim to offer micro-molding processing. But a machine alone won’t deliver the precision your parts require.

An understanding of physics, material science, and manufacturability in micro molding is every bit as important as the machines and instrumentation.

Accumold has been an expert in micro molding for more than three decades—and many of our professionals are with us their entire careers.
