LASER CUTTING
It is our aim to create the most optimum mix of customised competences, technologies and services to ensure that our customers achieve the most cost-effective total solution.

Sheeting and foils
COVI can laser cut most metals, primarily stainless steel, titanium, cupper and German silver; however, other ”exotic” types of metal sheeting can be processed. COVI primarily employs Fibre and Fibre/pulse YAG laser with a beam diameter of as little as 30 mµ, which is specifically developed for the cutting of thin-gauge sheeting and metal foils.

In the case of very complex products and those with strict tolerance requirements, materials with a greater material thickness may be advantageously processed; however, our technology is otherwise most relevant when processing sheeting thicknesses of up to 1.0mm.

Precision and accuracy
Polymer foils are processed using CO2 laser cutting which offers great precision and accuracy on repetition and, at the same time, prevents the material from fraying and counteracts burring around cuts.

The technology is thus a good alternative to stamping and water cutting of polymer washers, membranes and filters which require great standards of cleanliness and precision.

Precision tubes
COVI has great experience in the rotational cutting of precision- and needle tubes and works closely with renowned medico companies on the development and production of filling needles, probes, needle tubes, stents and flexible tubes. Add to this our competences in the bending of small-gauge tubes and laser-welding of thin-gauge sheet products – processes which are often part of the above.

The advantages of COVI’s laser technology
The technical advantages of COVI’s laser-cutting technology are great precision, great repetitive accuracy, negligible burring and very negligible thermal impact (HAZ). Additionally, great flexibility in the production and low start-up costs are achieved. In case of a larger automated production, unmanned 24/7 production is offered.

Thus, COVI can offer precision laser cutting as a qualitative and competitive alternative to ordinary laser cutting, stamping and acid embossing.

LASER WELDING IN METAL
We aim to create the most optimum mix of customised competences, technologies and services to allow our customers to achieve the most cost-effective total solutions.

The laserwelding technology of COVI offers a number of unique technical advantages over traditional soldering, MIG/MAG, TIG and arc welding. With a beam diameter as small as 50 mμ, weldings can be performed in very hard-to-reach spots, what other welding methods do not reach.

Welding of complex geometric designs
Our laser technology enables rotational welding, XYZQ plane control and welding with Galvo-head (controlling the beam through specular technology) which means that welding of even very complex geometric designs may be undertaken.

Laser welding provides many advantages
When using laser technology, welding is done without the use of welding wire and, thus, the introduction of foreign material is avoided as this may degrade the quality of the product. Laser welding is carried out with the assistance of CAD/CAM-control which ensures great precision and repetitive accuracy. Finally, the thermal impact in the weld zone is minimal, which means that the functionality and look of the product is not damaged.

The many possibilities of laser welding
The characteristics and advantages mentioned means that laser technology is unsurpassed in the welding of materials such as:

Thin-gauge sheeting
Materials of low melting point (e.g. aluminium)
Materials of large micro-structural porousness (e.g. sintered metal)
Materials close to thermosensitive components (e.g. electronics)

All weldable metals may be welded using laser technology. Moreover, the precise control of the molten bath offers good possibilities for welding together different metals.

Welding may be carried out at distances of up to 200 mm, which means that welds that are difficult to access, such as welds in holes or on the inside on tubes, may be carried out.

COVI carries out both manual as well as fully-automated laser welding as well as penetration welding and deep-penetration welding.

LASER WELDING OF PLASTIC
It is our aim to create the most optimum mix of customised competences, technologies and services to ensure that our customers achieve a cost-effective total solution.
As an alternative to ultrasonic welding, hot-iron welding and gluing of plastics, COVI PRECISION offers the technically superior and more competitive laser welding. Laser welding gives you a wide range of new possibilities and benefits.

Most thermo-plastics may be welded
Most thermo-plastics/TPUs are basically well-suited for laser welding. By admixing the right additives, transparent, coloured and different joined types of plastics may be made weldable, which means that the advantages of the speed, precision and safety of laser technology may be enjoyed.

Gentle welding
Laser welding is typically carried out without the addition of foreign material and without mechanical impact to products and equipment. Moreover, the thermal impact of welding is minimal and thus very gentle to the polymer structure, look and strength of the product. Thus, welding may be carried out near thermally sensitive components without the product acquiring vibration interference and marks, as would be the case if ultrasound were used.

Welding in complex geometric designs
At COVI, we weld using Galvo technology (controlling the beam through specular reflection) which means that welding complex geometric designs may be done with great precision and at high speed and employing the most common welding methods, such as:

Contour welding – single welding
Simultaneous welding – the entire weld is welded simultaneously
Quasi-simultaneous welding – the weld is kept liquid by continuous run-through
Masked welding – shielding where no welding is desired
Radial welding – welding of circular products

Good qualities
Laser welding of plastics is particularly well-suited to the hygienic embedding of electronic components of complex geometric design.
