Silicone extrusion
What is extrusion ?

Silicone extrusion consists in feeding the extruder with raw silicone materials, which will then be carried through a screw to the die* fixed on the extruder head in order to take the designed shape, and will follow its course on a heated treadmill to be cured and therefore fix its shape. Standard or specified tolerances are always defined as silicone rubbers, solid or sponge, will swell or shrink during transformation and post curing.

* The extrusion die is a tool shaped from steel, realized according to a sketch and adjusted before processing.

Sterne silicone extrusion workshop

We have 7 extrusion lines: 5 complete lines in our industrial workshop, screw diameter from 40 to 90mm, 1 complete line in our ISO 8 cleanroom and 1complete line in our ISO 6 cleanroom.
All these workshops are equipped with external mixers and ovens to make customized silicone blends and to post cure the articles.

Inflatable seal : A concept

Inflatable sealing technology is the solution whenever there is a need to fill in a gap between two dynamic elements which need to be consecutively easily connected and disconnected. The pneumatic seal will expand and retract as wished.

Silicone inflatable seals can be used in many industries as they comply with topmost temperatures, pressures and with some fluids while answering specific standards & norms.

Silicone inflatable seal : A design

Hollow silicone profile with axial or radial expansion, stretched out of shape by bringing pressure in (air, gas, fluid). Most inflatable profiles and seals are often customized according to specific drawings based on the particularity of each application.

The profile is then vulcanized into either ring, frame, or straight length sealed at both ends, pressure is brought in by using a valve, either in metal or in silicone elastomer. The valve can be assembled either mechanically, simply glued, or over-molded with a cone on the profile. These custom-engineered inflatable seals are a real advanced solution for multiple applications.

Compact Silicone or HCR (High Consistency Silicone): hardness available from 7 to 90 Sh A +/-5 (Our standard being 60 Sh A +/-5 ). A wide range of colors, our standards being red iron and translucent.
Homologated silicone available:
– Food industry: FDA, CE 1935-2004
– Medical & Pharmaceutical : USP Class VI, ISO 10993
– Others : temperature resistance from 200°C (standard), 250°C, 300°C till 400°C.
Working environment: industrial workshop and clean rooms (ISO 6 & ISO 8).
Adhesive backing can be added on sections and profiles. The company Sterne, specialized in silicone manufacturing, can also customize your elastomer products using pad printing, laser marking and continuous marking.

Silicone sponge : Silicone sponge: standard density is 250kg/m3, but we can afford a density till 600 kg/m3, with a wide range of colors (off white being our standard color). Silicone profile extrusion : A technique

Silicone profiles are made through the extrusion process. Sterne can manufacture profiles of any shapes, colors, sizes, in a large selection of silicones, production environments, and with standard or tight tolerances. Profiles can be delivered in coils, cut in lengths or vulcanized in rings or frames.

Custom silicone molded parts : a mastered technique

Sterne molding capabilities include compression and injection molding techniques. Custom silicone rubber parts are made in either High Consistency silicone Rubber or Liquid Silicone Rubber. Simple or complex silicone parts are manufactured using a multitude of technologies using our compression or injection molding machines. Our technical team will determine the right process and design the right mold according to the technical specificities (size, quantity, target cost, expected performances and tolerances, …)

Standard tolerances respect ISO 3302-1 norm category M2, but tighter tolerances are also possible.

A large choice of silicone compound is available.
Sterne can produce prototype, unique piece, small, medium or mass series thanks to its host of machines.
