Immunohematology
BioGnost’s production activity began with immunohematology production line. Since the very beginning our goal has been production of high quality, fast and reliable diagnostic devices that enable accurate immunohematologic diagnoses. The first products in this line were the ABO and Rh blood typing reagents. Currently this range contains more than 70 products, many of which are a part of the MonoGnost brand.

Some of the line’s most notable products include the ABO and Rh blood typing reagents, as well as many other hematology diagnostic reagents (AHG, Alsever, Bio-Liss, Albumin 22%, Bromelin). The reagents’ quality and reliability provide exceptional results.

The production line was expanded by distributing renowned foreign companies’ products, as well as consumables and transfusion medicine equipment. Foreign companies such as Immucor, Dominion, Sanquin and Grifols are our longtime business partners and are also among the most influential manufacturers of immunohematology reagents.

Rapid diagnostic devices
This product line consists of wide range of BioGnost’s original tests for home and laboratory use. Immunochromatographic assays are manufactured as strips, plates and panels; they react fast and are very easy to use. The assays are also known as rapid or lateral flow tests. They are mainly used as screening tests and require no additional devices, such as result reading devices.

Immunochromatographic assays product range contains the majority of our branded products. The packaging meets our customers’ needs; single packages are a part of the apothecary product range, while the laboratory packages are intended for testing in healthcare institutions.

Transfusiology
Our transfusiology product range is closely related to immunohematology product range. It is represented by distribution of diagnostic reagents and consumables, as well as transfusion medicine devices. The quality of our products is continually being acknowledged by constant product range expansion and concluding new business deals. Our business partners include renowned companies such as Grifols, JMS and Bionic. With constant growth of our transfusion medicine devices product range, we aim to become the biggest distributor of that sort of medical equipment in the region.

Microbiology
The microbiology product range consists of a wide range of high quality microbiology products, including rapid tests for detecting infectious diseases, consumables present in every microbiology laboratory, such as plastic products, dehydrated culture media, animal blood used as supplement for culture media, antibiotic discs, immunofluorescence kits and other products.

Along with our production of rapid tests for detecting infective diseases and supplements based on sheep, horse, bovine and rabbit blood (BioSap), we plan starting our own production line of ready liquid and solid culture media.

Our range consists of high quality equipment and consumables designed for fast and quality analysis of food, water and cosmetics quality tests.

We also offer Real Time polymerase chain reaction kits for detection of pathogens in food industry and clinical microbiology.

The product range consists of a wide selection of solutions, reagents and equipment found in every diagnostic laboratory. Every product bears the CE mark – the certificate that confirms a product is in accordance with the EU standards. The production takes place in a controlled environment, this way we manufacture over 100 solutions and reagents that make up our histopathology product range. By combining high production standards, carefully selected raw materials, expert knowledge and our employees’ experience, and continuous quality control checks we produce high quality and reliable reagents that conform to demands of market.

Some of the products in the range are fixatives (Formaldehyde NB 4%, Formaldehyde NB 10%, CitoFix, CitoSpray, DeHematin), decalcification agents (OsteoSens, OsteoFast 1 and 2), dehydrating/rehydrating alcohol solutions (Histanol 95, Histanol 100), clearing/deparaffinization agents (BioClear, BIoClear New), mounting/covering agents, fitting and immersion (BioMount DPX, BioMount M, BioMount New, Cedar Oil, Canada Balsam), marking agents (tissue marking dyes, Duoline markers), infiltrating/fitting and demolding agents (BioWax 52/54, BioWax 56/58, BioWax Plus, BioWax Micro, BioWax Blue, DeMold Spray), differentiating and bluing agents (Acid alcohol, Scott’s solution).

We produce the most frequently used basic and special dyes in histology: hematoxylin and eosin for the standard hematoxylin and eosin staining (Hematoxylin H, Hematoxylin ML, Hematoxylin M, Hematoxylin G3, Eosin Y 0.5% aqueous solution, Eosin Y 1% aqueous solution, Eosin Y 0.5% alcohol solution), as well as kits used for staining in histology (HBFP, PAS, Gomori Trichrome, Masson Trichrome and other kits). We also offer reagents such as Alcian Blue solution (pH 2.5), BioSchiff reagent and Toluidine Blue solution.

Our range includes powder dyes and solutions used in histological processing of samples (Histanol M, Acetone for histology, Acetic acid for histology, Periodic acid solution, Buffered saline solution and other products).

The range of laboratory equipment used in histopathology processes consists of more than 30 types of VitroGnost glass slides and cover glasses, microtomy agents, maps, media for transporting samples, storing microscopic preparations, embedding cassettes, sponges, embedding molds, filters and other related equipment.

The hematology range is one of the newest ranges in our offer, started only a few years ago. Despite that it consists of individual reagents and high quality kits for hematological processing of samples. All reagents are entirely produced by BioGnost according to high production standards.

We highlight the BioDiff kit for rapid staining of hematological samples. It consists of three components: fixative, red and blue component. BioGnost also offers some of the most frequently used monochromatic and polychromatic solutions for hematological preparations staining.

BioGnost’s production and sales hematology production range includes the following polychromatic solutions: Giemsa, May-Gruenwald, Leishman and Wright solutions, as well as monochromatic solutions such as Hayem’s and Türk’s solutions used for manual erythrocyte and leukocyte counting.

BioGnost’s laboratory equipment sales range consists of wide selection of high quality products. Our products are made of glass, plastic and high quality metal, both sterile and non-sterile, for single or multiple use.

The range consists of more than 30 types of VitroGnost glass slides and cover glasses, cotton and viscous swabs, transport swabs, glass and plastic tubes, tapered bottom centrifuge tubes, cryotube vials and boxes, PCR tubes and racks, loops, microplates, Petri dishes, droppers, capillaries and pipette extensions. We also offer watch glasses, glass containers of various sizes for staining samples and matching metal racks.

Sampling equipment range includes a wide selection of cervical and cytology brushes and spatulas, and we single out our branded BioSwab kits used for sampling and safe transport of clinical samples, as well as maintaining the samples’ viability until laboratory testing.

Veterinary range
This range was started in 2010 and it represents our latest production challenge. Our goal is to become the market leader through our high quality reliable products and enhance and make veterinarian’s work easier. Our rapid veterinary tests product range is divided into CaniGnost rapid tests for detecting canine diseases and FeliGnost rapid tests for detecting feline diseases.

The CaniGnost range includes rapid tests for detecting canine parvovirus antigen, heart worm antigen, Giardia antigen, distemper virus antigen and test panel for detecting canine parvovirus antigen and/or canine coronavirus antigen.

The FeliGnost range includes rapid tests for detecting Toxoplasma fondii antigen, Toxoplasma antibodies, canine immunodeficiency virus antibodies, canine leukemia virus antigen and test panel for detecting canine immunodeficiency virus antibodies and/or canine leukemia virus antigen.

The range also consists of the Pepsin kit containing reagents for detecting Trichinella larvae in meat using the reference method of artificial digestion. The activity of the Pepsin reagent and concentration of the BioKlor 25 reagent is in accordance with the Ordinance on the methods of conducting controls for Trichinella in meat (Official Gazette No. 62/08). The reagents can be sold as a kit or separately. BioGnost’s Pepsin kit contains two reagents. Pepsin reagent – diagnostic reagent for detecting Trichinella larvae in meat using the reference method of artificial digestion. BioKlor 25 reagent – reagent based on hydrochloric acid, used for detecting Trichinella larvae in meat using the reference method of artificial digestion.

Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic state of absolute or relative insulin deficiency leading to hyperglycemia. It can lead to changes in organs such as neuropathy, retinopathy, various infections etc. It is the most common metabolic disorder caused by stress, obesity, poor diet, but genetic predispositions as well.

Types of diabetes and treatment
There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 destroys insulin-secreting beta cells of the pancreas. It is an autoimmune process that has not been entirely explained. The young are more often affected. Around 10% of diabetics suffer from this type of diabetes that manifests suddenly. Insulin needs to be injected. Type 2 diabetes develops in cases of pancreas not secreting enough insulin or when the cell receptors become insensitive to insulin. It is the most common type of diabetes, triggered by combination of genetic predispositions and the surrounding factors. It can be regulated with various medicaments and diets, sometimes with insulin injections. The illness is asymptomatic until the the onset of chronic health issues.

Diabetes is an incurable chronic disease. It can be treated with insulin (Type 1), pills, regular diet, physical exercise, self-control and learning about the disease. Positive attitude, motivation and sharing the experience with others can also make a difference. These principles are important because of often unnecessarily high usage of pills and too high doses of insulin. Abundant levels of insulin are used in order to achieve normoglycemia, but the downside is that the patient is gaining weight because of the constant need for food. Pills and insulin are the final line of defense against diabetes for the patients who do not treat the illness using the basic methods.

Effect of food on glucose levels
Sugar enters the organism via unprocessed (pasta – it degrades slowly and maintains the glucose levels) and concentrated carbohydrates (cakes and sweets – absorbed quickly, the glucose level varies). The body automatically secretes glycogen and stores it in the liver in the case of hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycemia (or the low level of the blood glucose) occurs as a result of too much insulin, alcohol, physical exercise or a skipped meal. It can be prevented by eating regularly, correct doses of medicaments or insulin and more frequent checks of the glucose levels (in order to achieve a better control level).

Business rise
Our entrepreneurship began in 1990 by purchasing the site and founding the family company. Our business rise and blood typing serums production started in 1998 when the Croatian Ministry of Health granted BioGnost the License for manufacture of medical products.

Our production line and sales program quickly expanded through innovative development of our own products: tests for determining pregnancy, ovulation, metabolites of narcotic drugs and infectious diseases, tumor markers, tests for determining blood glucose levels and urine biochemical parameters, as well as other methods of self-testing and laboratory equipment.

By implementing the international quality standards ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and ISO 14001 we standardized the processes and in turn achieved better results, easier adapting and training of new members of personnel, more efficient system of planning and controlling, monitoring and rewarding the employees.
