Inspired to make a difference

Over 50 years ago, the commitment of healthcare professionals inspired us to think about ways we could help them do their job. We looked at a process that happens every day in healthcare facilities all over the world – patient toileting and cleansing and the disposal of human waste – and we asked ourselves how we could improve this routine task.

Our answer was the revolutionary Vernacare single-use system for hygienic patient care. It revolutionised the healthcare sector.

For patients and professionals

Before we invented our single-use solution, the “wash and reuse” bedpan system was all there was. It is still sometimes used today, and remains undignified for patients, unpleasant for carers, and can contribute to the spread of healthcare associated infections (HCAIs).

Our vision was for an alternative way of working – a system that would really improve lives. The system incorporates high quality paper pulp single-use containers (such as bedpans, urinals and bowls) and disposal units. The system we invented macerates the waste and the bedpan together, and disposes of them quickly, efficiently and hygienically.
